Ms Pacman Games

One of my favorite video games ever released, a sequel for the original pacman game.

Did you know that ms pacman was originally created as a bootleg game, without any kind of permission? But it proved to be so popular and valuable that it got its license and the profits flowed. The developers sold the rights to midway, even though they didn't have the right to make this move either. But nonetheless, ms pacman arrived on the scene in 1981, well over 25 years ago! Since then it has become right up there with games like mario brothers and tetris. Its popularity is huge, as it basically builds on the original pacman series.

What makes Ms Pacman unique?

Its basically just an upgrade. You can play more levels as the new female character wearing a bow-tie, with some added gameplay features. For example, you still gather dots and avoid the ghosts, and your goal is still identical. However with ms pacman you have new movements. The ghosts (Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde) now feature random unpredictable moves, fruits bounce all over the screen, even going through the warp tunnels. Its a more fast paced action game.

Ms Pacman was originally titled crazy otto, being programmed by some nerdy programmer types who worked for the general computer corporation. When they showed it to midway, thats when the wheels were set in motion for release. Midway bought the rights and pumped it straight to the arcades. Nowadays the arcades have taken a backseat to online arcades, which are totally free! But at the time, lots of money was invested into ms pacman, and trying to reach the final stages.

I miss the classic days of the 1980's, back when arcades were still popular. In this era, ms pacman got lots of exposure! So naturally, the original creators of pacman sued midway and starting fighting over royalty money! No surprises there. As they were basically profiting off something they stole. In the end, both companies bowed down to the mighty namco, fearing they would get sued. Why? Because they made Ms Pacman without the consent of Namco, who owned the rights and licensing.
