Although this website is dedicated to ms pacman, we have to look at what really started it all, and inspired her creation. It was the year 1980, and the gaming company namco was looking to make $4 billion dollars. They decided a simple but catchy pacman game would do the trick. How right they were! It even became a true social phenomenon. With people wearing the T-Shirts, buying pac merchandise, and even watched an animated series centered around the characters. We talk a little about that show in another section.

One of the reasons it exploded to fame, was because at the time most games were just rip offs of pong, or space shooters. Pacman truly created a new kind of game, one which worked for all types of people, including the elderly. Some call it the most famous arcade game ever! Think of how many quarters were pumped into the machines! At the time you couldn't just play pacman online, like you can today.

Have you ever heard of the davie brown index? It looks at brand awareness, and determines what percentage of people know about something. That doesn't mean they are customers. For example, most of us know about Mario, it has a high brand awareness. According to them, pac-man is recognized by 94% of Americans, and carries the highest awareness in the video game sector. Even more then super mario!

Anyways you probably know how the story goes, you eat the pac-dots and avoid the ghosts. Touch them, and you lose your life. You need to get through the stages without getting eaten up. Have you ever beat the game? I bet you haven't. Once you reach the 255th level, the programming goes wonky and you can't complete the levels. There is no end.
